Terry and Gary in 'Dulci Jubilo' by Ian Long directed by Ian Long
Terry And Gary in 'Dulci Jubilo' is basically three half-hour sitcoms rolled into one evening's entertainment. Think of it as a Likely Lads, a Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads and a Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads Christmas Special!
Episode 1, Terry and Gary in 'Party', presents Terry and Gary back in 1984, age early 20s, getting ready for a party at Gary's mum's flat while she's away. Because it's being planned by Terry and Gary, of course, things do not go to plan; they are interrupted by Terry's younger sister insisting that he go home for his tea and well as Gary's episodic fantasy sequences with the lovely Samantha. Mrs Spalding returns unexpectedly from Bournemouth but not before Terry has inadvertently invited Ronnie and his skinhead mates to the now cancelled party.
Episode 2, variously titled Terry And Gary in 'Eptitude', Terry And Gary in 'Describable' and Terry And Gary in 'Anniversary', brings the pair forward to 2014, this time planning an evening out to celebrate Gary's wedding anniversary. This promises about as much success as their previous venture into entertaining, while this time the plot is thickened by the fantasy presence of Gary's dreams of stately home grandeur and cordon bleu dining and the very real presence of their wives!
Episode 3 is the Christmas Special (and title piece of the show) Terry And Gary In 'Dulci Jubilo'. Our middle-aged Terry and Gary are preparing for Christmas and after discussing the relative merits of the seasonal festivities fall asleep only to be woken by visiting spirits. The Ghosts of Christmas Past are of course their teenage selves who take them back to the 1980s, while it is their wives who share Christmas Present at the Mall and the Boxing Day Sales. After a visit by the Spirit of Christmas Yet To Come, our own festivities are thrown into sharp relief by the deus ex machina of Terry on a trolley.
