The coal power Lake Michigan car ferry SS Badger missed its turn into port on the maiden voyage of the 2012 season due to a combination of high speed and wind and ran aground in Manitowoc Wisconsin. After being delayed for approximately 4 hours, the ship was finally freed by an assisting tugboat and returned to its Manitowoc carferry dock. Because one engine was damaged during the effort to free the grounded ship, the vessel will remain in Manitowoc while undergoing repairs and US Coast Guard inspectons.
