The last few minutes of the July 3, 1986, evening newscast on Dallas-Fort Worth ABC affiliate WFAA-TV, directly preceding network coverage of the Liberty Weekend opening ceremonies in New York. (In Texas, Fourth of July events that year celebrated not only the Statue of Liberty's centennial, but also the state of Texas' 150th anniversary.)
First, longtime weatherman and bow-tie enthusiast Troy Dungan wraps up his forecast with a discussion of ... berry tips.
Then, anchor Tracy Rowlett gives us a preview of what's in store during and after ABC's coverage of Liberty Weekend events in New York. On the 10 p.m. Update, Jane Peterson will cover the "Two Great Nations Salute" at Dallas City Hall (the building on the backdrop behind Rowlett); Matt Quinn is at swearing-in ceremonies for new citizens; and Midge Hill is in Fort Worth for the Texas sesquicentennial events there.
Midge Hill and John Criswell are already there, and give a live preview.
