feelMe is a work that transmits tactile sensation. feelMe causes exploration of the haptic sense while promoting the interaction between two people, mediated by machine. The work is constituted of two surfaces or "beds": one of the participants lays down on the Tactile Transmission Unit and imprints his marks to its surface, by pressing it with the weight and movement of different parts of his body. The participant lying on the Tactile Reception Unit receives these captured impressions simultaneously in the same positions and in proportional intensity. The positions that sink on the first surface rise on the second one, promoting touch. The first body touches the second one, which may be a few meters or thousands of kilometers apart. Between the bodies, lay hidden dozens of sensors, microcontrollers, engines (linear actuators), computers and a program that orchestrates the tactile communication. The participant may experience the possibilities of encounter between bodies through technology, in a different approach from the one provided by virtual reality. feelMe is a platform of remote haptic communication in which any kind of experience is valid, everything is of interest.
