While hanging out in China I keep on running into a horrible product which consists of a water-filled plastic bladder with a turtle, fish, or salamander inside. These are rigged as keychains and popular with dumb girls who think that it is cute to carry these critters attached to their keys or mobile phones, seemingly oblivious to the fact that they are torturing the fuck out of the animal imprisoned inside, and then suffocating them. Last time I checked, the inside of a 5-by-5 cm plastic bag is not a natural habitat for a baby turtle.
A lot of people have a problem with the Chinese for eating dogs, cats, snakes and more. I don't. Meat is meat. But this is just fucking pointless... People buy these (priced as low as 5 yuan - less than 1 USD) because they are cute and, especially in case of the turtles, they "bring good luck".
It really should take less than a few minutes of actual thought to realize how twisted it is to carry around a small, suffocating creature for personal amusement.
