The Children's Hospital at Westmead is proud to share with you a video of drowning prevention strategies and data from a study of near drowning in children.

This was the first study to look at near drowning in children from the three paediatric hospitals in New South Wales.

The study looked at:
• How children are gaining access to private pools
• The reported history of swimming lessons
• Who needed and received CPR and the level of CPR training
• Evidence of water in the lungs and the length of time underwater
• Detailed level of supervision for all children in all aquatic locations
• Prevention strategies from the parents and carers

Watch our water safety video where new information from the study is detailed, a family talk about their experience with near drowning in their backyard pool, and drowning prevention strategies are discussed by professionals at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
