Goa Trance and Psytrance are sister genres. They have many in common since no one actually knows where Goa Trance ends and Psytrance begins.
Goa Trance was the father of Psytrance. It's where it all started. Goa Trance had a golden period from 1994 to 1998. From then it slowly evolved into Psytrance and from 2000 to 2003 it almost got dissapeared. Thankfully Goa Trance never died and around 2004 it resurfaced.

Goa Trance has a distinct and easily recognizable sound. It features many layers, mostly heavy kicks, complex melodies most of them with an eastern feeling, less monotonous bass compared to psytrance and a more organic and mystical sound.
The majority of the tracks include climaxes, build ups, larger than life melodies and samples related to the paranormal, drugs and eastern culture/religion.
Goa Trance is very diverse as well. From slow paced tracks to insane powerful behemoths and from simple morning tunes to eerie dark stormers.

Enjoy! :)
