Join in this ecstatic Kirtan recorded live with Jagad Guru Siddhaswarupananda and friends. The track features a fusion of rhythmic, percussive style kirtan with strong heartfelt vocals that meld to create an energetic, uplifting chant experience. This is a dynamic kirtan to lift your spirits.
Kirtan is an ancient form of mantra meditation that became very popular in India 500 years ago due to the influence of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who created a spiritual phenomenon that has since spread around the globe.
The teachings of yoga recognize that we all have a natural tendency to enjoy singing, playing music and being with other people. The practice of kirtan perfectly harmonizes these natural tendencies into a spiritually uplifting activity.
The ancient yoga texts describe that there are no hard and fast rules for kirtan. The mantras can be sung slowly and softly or loudly and upbeat with dancing.
Kirtan can be accompanied by traditional or electric instruments, drums and percussion, clapping of hands or no music at all. In a kirtan, usually one person sings the mantras and then others respond with the mantra going backwards and forwards between leader and responders.
The mantras contained in this video are transcendental sounds. For thousands of years sages have used mantras for self-realization. The Sanskrit word "mana" means "mind" and "trayah" -- "liberation." Thus, the mantra frees our mind from anxiety. It allows a person to rise from the material to the spiritual level and experience inner peace, satisfaction and happiness.
