One of the key issues surrounding the UK government's plans to reorganise the national health service is that of competition. The government says there will be more competition based on quality, not price, and this will be good for efficiency. Others doubt this.

This report from Tony Coll features the views of Professor Carol Propper of the Centre for Market and Public Organisation at Bristol University, who has studied NHS competition. We also hear from one of the UK's leading social commentators, Polly Toynbee of The Guardian.
