Doc Watson died this day, the 29th of May, 2012. This video is a tribute to all the music that he gave us. The song, "Hick's Farewell" comes from the Smithsonian Folkways box set, "Friends Of Old Time Music". It features Doc on vocal with Gaither Carlton on fiddle, and was recorded on the 12th of October 1962. The song was composed by the Reverend B. Hicks, a Baptist minister of South Carolina, and was sent to his wife while he was confined in Tennessee by a fever. The song appeared in William Walker's 19th Century hymnbook "The Southern Harmony".Doc learned this song from the singing of his family. RIP Doc Watson. You will always be remembered, and your music will live on.
