Hymn by Fanny J. Crosby and William H. Doane
Fanny Crosby (1820-1915), known as America's hymn writer, wrote more than 9,000 hymns during her lifetime. Being blind from the age of 6 months, she was a student and then a teacher at the, then, New York Institute for the Blind. She later dedicated her life to helping the poor. She died at the age of 95, buried in Bridgeport, CT her headstone reads "Aunt Fanny" with these words: "Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine; Oh what a foretaste of glory divine."
