Paleo Reboot Review

Homeschool Paleo I’ve been taking a few days to decompress from yet another “tribal submersion”, Paleo(f)x 2014, Austin. Being around so many like minded people, connecting with a group of people so deeply about a subject we all feel this passionate about, can be, and often is, life altering. I would love to tell you about every talk I attended, every new product discovered, every conversation, every new friend made…it would take a book. Know that I laughed loud and long. I learned. I grew. Here are a few nuggets of wisdom I took away:Most Dr’s don’t know much about health.Health is the state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or illness. The concept of exceptional health is not a priority for physicians.Don’t be jerk. (Chris Kresser)There is a shred of truth Paleo Reboot critique.Admit the things you’ve been wrong about.Old myths die hard.Things change…especially in science.Vote with your wallet.Love heals. (Dr. Kalish)The United States spends the most money on healthcare annually yet ranks 50th on life expectancy.Amy Kubal is one of the bravest, strongest people I’ve ever met. Ever.Fake it till you make it.Be gentle.Change, within our food system, is going to be economically driven. The Gut Biome is the hottest topic in epidemiology. (Robb Wolf)We’ll trick them into eating “Paleo”. (Mark Sisson)Raising and harvesting rabbits for food is completely doable in any backyard. (You’ll be hearing more about this Paleo Reboot days to come…I’m fairly certain.)5 backyard chickens will yield 1,250 eggs/year (conservatively). When starting a garden, start small. You will have failures–but your failures will be small. You’ll learn from them.Humans became the dominant species because we had the most nutrient dense foods.Permaculture is a way of farming for lazy people.Books that were mentioned: The Kalish Method: Healing the Body, Mapping the Mind (Dr. Daniel Kalish), Anti-Fragile (by Nassim Nicholas Taleb), What to Do When the Shit Hits the Fan (by David Black), David & Goliath and The Tipping Point (both by Malcolm Gladwell). And lastly…my 2014 PaleoFX recap in photos:I just have to start with this one….Yes, this surprised me and yes, that is Robb Wolf with yours truly.Deep Paleo Reboot heart of Texas.April was thoughtful enough to prepare some road snacks…Dark Chocolate and Bacon!Somehow, we both managed to quit giggling long enough to take the very serious shot. I call it “Om with Bluebonnets”.Say. No. More.We ate here our first night of PFX when we were ALL STARVING!!! It was delish!!!Let the FUN begin…House Party @ the BB Girls House!!Shenanigans with Friends:This is Liz…taking a selfie.Sylvie McCracken–so I would know how to get in touch with her!!! I’m so glad we met!!!This is one of my favorite shots of the entire trip. In less than 2 minutes, this Granilla Bar was Paleo Reboot hands of Mark Sisson. I love you, roomie. I mean, Tasha. This is Kathryn Berger. We met virtually in 30 Days Paleo Reboot Cave, the FB group my cyber friends Paul and Paul started, to give support to anyone embarking on any sort of nutritional/fitness challenge. And now we meet in person!Let’s make a toast!! Some ladies from the Balanced Bites team: Keri Brewster, Amanda Solorza, Holly Morello Ntp, Tasha Pirzad and ME.And the learning begins (in no particular order):Chris KresserSarah FragosoUS Healthcare in Crisis or Chaos panel: Dr. Grayson Wheatley, Charles Mayfield (who I slightly heckled…but not intentionally…and for which I apologized), Darryl Edwards, Dr. Richard Maurer, Robb WolfJacob EgbertBuilding, Not Burning, Bridges Paleo Reboot Paleo Movement panel: Jonathan Bailor, Dr. Deborah Gordon, Mark Sisson, Diana Rodgers, Robb WolfThe amazing Dr. Daniel Kalish in his talk on Adrenals: Key to Restoring Optimum Health. This was one of my very favorite talks.Amy Kubal with Robb Wolf. Amy gave one of the most honest, powerful and moving talks of the entire weekend. She is so brave–I wish I had asked her to take a picture with me. NEXT TIME!!!Hilary Bromberg and Darryl Edwards. Two of my favorites on the Living a Happy and Intentional Life panel.Dr. Lane Sebring…looking very intense.A few fan-girl shots are certainly called for:Lunch with Diane…her Balanced Bites Team!!This is what I ate on my lunch with Diane (in case you were wondering). La Barbecue. Best. Brisket. Ever. The wait was an hour and a half and worth every bite–though some would debate that. I ordered extra to take home to the hubs. Technically, this came out of a food truck.
