On 18 September we headed to sunny Cardiff for the sixth heat of the BBC New Comedy Award with the latest ten stand-ups to take on the competition. We also welcomed back 2011 heat host Elis James to resume compering duties and guest judge Lloyd Langford, who joined a judging panel of Executive Producer Alison Vernon-Smith, Producer Lianne Coop and Chortle's Steve Bennett.
At the end of the heats, two runners-up will be selected by the judges to go straight through one of our two semi-finals. Eight more runners-up will be chosen to compete online in a wildcard vote, where you'll be able to watch more footage of each performer and vote for who you think deserves a place in the semi-final. Voting will open once all the heats have taken place on the BBC Radio 2 website.
As well as being thoroughly entertained by the comedians and the brilliant Cardiff audience, we were also treated to stunning, sunlit views of the city which we did our best to capture on camera (a modern day equivalent to bottling for later admiration), accompanied by the music of two of Wales' most talented musical exports, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and The Joy Formidable.
Acts: Robin Morgan, Stu Richards, Tommy Rowson, Rhys James, Kate Lucas, Amy Howerska, Richard Middleton, Manraj Bahra, Joz Norris, Matt Rees Host: Elis James Guest judge: Lloyd Langford
Music: Gruff Rhys The Joy Formidable
