Edit: Just to clear up any confusion I didn't actually start grinding this route until about April. The first few months were the fetus stages of route testing and practicing starting from about February. The route idea wasn't even in discussion in December/January.

This is my latest and best real-time any% run done on console (Wii virtual console) on 25/08/14. It uses a long considered 'TAS route' that has been tailored slightly to avoid some of the more hardcore things used in a familiar TAS's of this route, such as X factor Ridley-MB, no Hi-Jump boots and 1 round Phantoon.

This has been a work in progress starting since December 2013/January 2014. With the help of Reeve and Smokey (legendary SM runner) and Forensic we set about testing many route ideas that all used the early Wrecked Ship. What came out on top for real-time is Wrecked Ship, Lower Norfair, Kraid, Maridia then finally Tourian. Though the route is at first incredibly hard, it has a very sizable lead over the current route, something in the region of a minute +, though it's actually very unlikely to achieve that kind of lead due to the amount of luck required. On average the route is probably about 30 - 40 seconds faster as a rough guess if one was to compare runs between the current route and this of a similar quality of play. Game-time however is badly tarnished by around 30 + seconds due to slow boss fights so this is purely a real-time route.

So what does this mean for any% ?. I'd say this is the 'new' real-time route that a runner can choose to use in order to achieve the best time possible, while the current route remains for runners to get great, but not the best time possible. Current route stands as the fastest game-time route and not a strictly dual purpose route as it has been for a very long time.

As far as potential goes it's possible to get low 43 or maybe even high 42. With the possible addition of skipping Spazer in favour of X factor Ridley it could be possible to achieve a 42.
