Invented by Beale in 1866, this was a mechanism for the animated projection of drawings with a magic lantern based on the theory of persistence of vision. It included a glass plate with drawing of a skeleton dance on a back ground mounted on a mechanisme with a Maltese Cross. This system made it possible to move the image forwards quickly, and was the same system that would be seen with the movement systems used for cinematography.
