Computer case modding with a Dremel 300 Series, Flex Shaft #225-01, EZ Lock Metal Cutting Wheel #EZ456 and EZ Lock Mandrel #EZ402

More and more people are customizing their computer towers in a hobby called case modding. Thanks to the Dremel rotary tool this can be done easily allowing you to be as creative as you wish.

For this project we'll be using a Dremel 300 series rotary tool the, 225 flex shaft, and the EZ402 Mandrel with the EZ456 cut-off wheel, a Dremel 400 series XPR rotary tool can also be used with the flex shaft or this project. After your attachment and cutting wheel are in place and your pattern is traced on the side of the tower plug your tool in and you're ready to begin cutting out your design. Simply follow the desired pattern is needed in a smooth and even motion. Cutting out your design will take patience and skill New large diameter cut-off wheels are used for straight cuts. When cutting is complete use the #932 Aluminum Oxide Grinding Stone to smooth any rough edges and remove any metal burrs. Use silicone adhesive to glue a piece of plexiglass to the inside wall of your cut out to make a window. Add cold cathode lighting available from case mod websites to the inside of your tower to make your design stand out. Now the side of your computer is ready to be put back in place.

Here some other tips on computer case modding. Always remove any areas which you're going to modify from the computer before cutting, as you may damage internal components. Use light pressure when cutting as it will reduce heat and wear on the wheel. We recommend that you practice making cuts on a piece of sheet metal or another tower obtained from a computer repair shop scrap pile. Save your worn, smaller diameter cut-off wheels for making curve cuts. Make sure the computer case is securely clamped in place before starting any work.
