Tom (male) turkeys have a fleshy facial appendage called a snood that becomes engorged with blood, erect, and bright red when trying to impress the hens (females) or displaying to other males. This animation shows the blood supply to the snood. Vascular injection, CT scanning, and 3D visualization of OUVC 10599) by Wm. Ruger Porter. Further 3D viz and animation by Ryan Ridgely using Amira and QuickTime.
