In 2016 Scotland decided to launch the worlds' first Year of the Dad. It was be part celebration, part rallying cry for an inclusive world where dads and mums were equally welcomed for their crucial nurturing roles in our children's lives.
Masterminded by Fathers Network Scotland, backed by research and supported by the Scottish Government and a huge coalition of organisations and families, the year inspired nearly 100 events up and down the country, from family play days & festivals to conferences and parliamentary debate.
This film celebrates the high points of an unforgettable year, hears from those involved, and remembers the originator of the idea, David Drysdale, who died of cancer before he could see its conclusion.
There's a long way to go, as employers and services embrace the new reality of shared parenting, but we hope it inspires you to join us in an ongoing win-win campaign to put involved dads at the heart of our children's lives and well-being.
Original music from Song For Dad, by the children of Queensferry Primary School, Edinburgh, and Fischy Music. Videography by Sandy Butler and Fathers Network Scotland.
