Pamela Reed, our Northeast Gardeniere, walks through some of the basic's of a rooftop garden. Pamela grows her roof top crop in 4 x 4 foot wood boxes, and sub irrigated containers which enable more efficient water management for the plants. Big plants means big containers, so Pamela is growing hers in 30 gallons containers and The Home Depot buckets that can hold a lot of broccoli and strawberries. Pamela has some practical tips for dealing with common rooftop garden issues like heat that evaporates water quickly (use a feed tube and plastic), and wind which can gust up to 50 mph (use wind blocker fabric)
