In fairy tales, a hero might marry a princess to bring two warring tribes together. In Mexico, this man is the mayor of San Pedro Huamelula, in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, who married a crocodile.
The locals call it "the little princess". This celebration is part of an indigenous ritual that dates back to 1789 and, according to tradition, brings luck to local fishermen and farmers in the coastal area of Chontel, in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
