The 'Hippy Rag underground newspaper' "The Georgia Straight" was started in 1967 by Dan McLeod in Vancouver.
Bob Geldof features as a music writer and drinking partner.

Many well known alumni including, Doug 'and the Slugs' Bennett, and Brent 'Ghostbusters' Boates worked for little money at the Straight.
Today it is a multi-million dollar business.
