Dr. Neil Aggarwal, post-doctoral clinical fellow, talks about his research on cultural competence training for mental health providers. Dr. Aggarwal describes how the Cultural Formulation Interview (CFI) can be used to teach providers skills to better understand and communicate with their patients/clients. Dr. Aggarwal describes how the these skills are essential for providing culturally competent and patient-centered care. The CFI is a clinical tool in the DSM-V that helps providers assess an individual's cultural identity and apply that information to their mental health treatment. This video features work done by the NY State Psychiatric Institute's Center of Excellence for Cultural Competence.
