On Thursday, July 21, 2011, Congressman Joe Courtney received testimony at a House Agriculture Committee hearing about derivates trading in commodity markets and the positive impact that reform would have on consumers and, specifically, gas prices. Courtney questioned Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Gary Gensler on the status of rules designed to limit the disproportionate influence of oil speculators in the market and stabilize gas prices for the consumers and government agencies such as the Department of Defense.
