Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper introduces the sponsors of the Colorado ASSET bill (Senate Bill 13-033) to speak at a signing ceremony at Metro State University of Denver, April 29. The sponsors are State Rep. Crisanta Duran, State Rep. Angela Williams, State Sen. Mike Johnston and State Sen. Angela Giron. The new law will make the dream of college affordable for thousands of undocumented Colorado high school graduates by allowing them to pay in-state tuition rates at a Colorado institution of higher education. The Colorado Education Association was represented at the ceremony by three of CEA's staunchest supporters of Colorado ASSET: Vice President Amie Baca-Oehlert, Executive Director Tony Salazar and District Twelve EA President Dorian De Long. CEA was a major partner in the Higher Education Access Alliance, a coalition that advocated for in-state higher education tuition rates for undocumented students through many years of failed legislative attempts.
