Pecos City Manager Joseph Gilbert Torres is dead.

This just one day after being indicted on a charge of indecency with a child, from an incident that allegedly took place in July 2001.

This morning we were able to confirm that he took his own life at his home in Pecos.

Because this is a high profile case the Texas Rangers have now taken over the investigation on the indictment and his death.

Sheriff's Department says they suspect no foul play.

Many of the city employees are still in shock tonight after the news of his death.

Mayor Venetta Seals says Joseph Torres was known as the handy man of the city, Torres started working with the city seven years ago.

"Is the suicide and the indictment related?" We asked. "I don't know," Seals said.

"The City Manager is in close contact with all of us, particularly me," Seals said. "Whether we had a waterline break or if we have anything going on in the community, he was always there."

The doors of The Pecos City Hall were closed Wednesday. Mayor Seals says Torres' office is just down the hall from hers, many of the employees are taking the news very hard.

"A lot of city employees were very upset with the news of his passing," Mayor Seals said.

Mayor Seals says Torres always had a positive attitude, and she doesn't know why Joseph Torres took his own life in his home last night.

"I always refer to him as the energizer bunny, he has all this energy and he's extremely family oriented and it's a great shock for all of us," Seals said.
