After taking some flack from some of my YouTubers for mistakingly having the gall to show the #45-HY-4 demonstrated with a bad idler as I did in my last video (yea, that took a lot of courage on my part LOL!), I immediately changed the idler out & am now demonstrating how that player is REALLY supposed to work! I've also taken the opportunity to compare it w/it's earlier sister player the #45-EY-4. Besides the obvious differences in the faces of the players, the biggest change was going from the larger tube compliment in the EY to the subminiature tube compliment in the HY. Both models still had the push-pull design feeding an 8" round speaker w/ volume & tone controls as well as the new & improved Sonotone ceramic cartridges-all with the RP-190 45 RPM changers. Both at this point still had the pilot light on the top and were "connectorized" for easier servicing. The next Hi-Fi series would lose the pilot light as a cost saving measure (it was simply plugged with bakelite/plastic) but still remained connectorized until the very last series of Hi-Fi player (orthophonic Hi-Fi). The last series of tabletop Hi-Fi players stopped being connectorized, the chassis became MUCH smaller & crowded and frankly, with no better words to describe it, became a PIA to rebuild! ALL of the tabletop RCA Hi-Fi players sound outstanding & are worth searching for.

Hope you enjoyed this demo of 50's RCA Hi-Fi tabletop players! I still have lots more to rebuild & put up here on YT. Thanx for watching and stay tuned as I bring more fascinating pieces of 50's history to you!
