This tour starts at the highest point of the former USSR: Pik Kommunizma(7495m) (Mt. Communism, now called Mt. Garmo or Ismoil Somoni Peak) and the final colossal peak is named Pik Revolyutsii (6974m) before we descend to Sarez Lake (16sq km; 55% size of Lake Powell), which was formed by an earthquake-produced landslide in 1911. It was 3 full years before water broke over the dam and 9 years before the lake reached its current level. The natural dam is called Usoi Dam (visible as the lake first comes into view) and considered to be highly unstable.
