Parks are the canaries in the coal mine of the modern world. They are among the greatest of human political creations and embody important social, scientific, and spiritual values in addition to their ecological importance. Parks now face many challenges, including pollution, global warming, habitat fragmentation, invasive plants and animals, the loss of top predators, and the extinction of species.

Crown Jewels showcases five international parks through the eyes of experts, each with a lifetime's work in that part of the world. Through narratives and striking photographs, learn about the challenges faced by protected areas in Tibet, East Africa, Italy, Amazonia, and Australia. The exhibit is accompanied by a lecture series that invites the public to hear these remarkable stories from the researchers themselves.
