The first time Austin sent me his music and a request to get together while he was stopping in Nashville, I'm ashamed to admit I didn't even reply. I was busy, I tell myself, and didn't get the chance to check out the music. Busy working, busy revolving around my own orbit. All that stuff that engulfs us and convinces us to ignore people.
Well, he didn't give up. Damn persistent if anything, admirable trait in a artist. And an artist he is. The second time he messaged me, I listened, and listened, and listened. And it was great stuff. I really am a busy person, but I told him to call me when he got into town. He did.
I sent him to my house while I was at another meeting, and he waited. I was two hours late when I finally showed up, but he was there, polite as all get out. I apologized. He asked me about where we might film, and I admitted that I rarely plan these things. So off we went, into the night, to find our little piece of the world. We found it, he played some songs, and here we are.
It's funny how sometimes it can take a stranger to make you realize something about your own life. By taking the time to meet Austin, I met a new friend, a great musician and rediscovered a bit of my own love for what we do here. Which is just exposing great music.
