Pyramus and Thysbe, Bucharest, 2007
Ion Dimieru performing "The Lion", one of the funniest moments in the show. His wig was not as a good fit as it should have been, and almost fell off ( a thing which actually happened in another performance) and at one moment the singer was quite displeased with the incident, but managed to keep his head, whits and wig on and recovered quite well.

Ladyes, don't fright ye.. roar roar roar roar
I will delight ye with gentle roar

This was indeed a very special project.
It started with Sophie Boulin, a french singing teacher who had previously mixed together for an exam a french tragic cantata by Monteclair and a mock-opera by Lampe. The Opera, the french institute and the Operetta of Bucharest liked the idea and agreed to do an experimental version (this was not quite a full production yet had quite a lot of people invested in it). The stage director was Andreea Valean, who expanded the idea of just putting together 2 musical pieces to a whole new level, adding a 3rd dimension. The concept was about a theatrical band on the brink of bankruptcy presenting it's talents to the public and performing first a sad french style cantata than a comic piece based on Shakespeare. The Shakespeare's Pyramus and Thysbe finale in the Midsummer night's is already a theater in theater, thus, we had a concept about a theater in theater in theater, a quite complex idea.
Add to this a brilliant baroque coreographer for the stage movements (Mary Collins) with plenty of funny ideas and you will get a great show.
We managed to overcome some logistic difficulties (hall was in repair so most rehearsals were on "electric drill" accompaniament, or held on staircases, cafeterias or wherever) but after 4 shows - one in Sibiu Cultural capital 2007 - the 3 co-producers decided it is too complicate to coordonate and abbandoned it. Was fun, as long as it lasted.
