Blackburns are strengthening exercises that target the muscles around your shoulder blades and posterior rotator cuff system. Blackburns were introduce through a research article back around 2004 and are named after a Dr. Blackburn.
Blackburns are particularly helpful for improving the strength of the muscles around your shoulder blades. These muscles are almost always involved in shoulder dysfunction. Blackburns are similar to a series of shoulder exercises called Is, Ts, and Ys but include a few other maneuvers to emphasize the rotator cuff system.
I highly recommend Blackburn exercises for someone who is toward the end of their recovery and who can complete the exercises with good form and no joint pain.
