Winemaker Robert Foley discusses the Terroir, Vinification, Flavor Profile, and Cellar-ability of his 2010 Griffin -- a lush and hedonistic blend of our cellar's best reds.

The Griffin -- the Foley family crest in Irish heraldry combines the strengths of the lion, king of beasts, with the eagle, king of the skies. A winemaker's dream is to be artistically free to combine characters into wine that is purely hedonic and non-compliant with varietal regulations. Here's ours -- a beautiful blend of everything in the red cellar: ripe berries, spice, everything nice.

Ultra purple in color, this proprietary red blend offers complex aromas of berries & spice! Black currant and all-spice flavors with a big mid-palate. The gentle grip of fine tannins lingers for a long while. Have fun pairing this with food! We'll be enjoying this blend for years to come.

This year's blend is 52% Merlot, 32% Petite Sirah, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Syrah, and 1% Petit Verdot. The Griffin composition will change with every vintage, so stock up if you find a favorite, as next year's bottle will be a surprise.
