Picton, 25 May - 5 June 2011
A performance by artist Laurence Payot with Picton residents.

"The everyday is the place where repetition and creativity confront each other." (Henri Lefebvre)

Between Monday 23 May and Sunday 5 June 2011, over 600 Picton residents created a subtle 14-day performance within their area. Each day, they received a text message with an action to perform as part of their daily lives. These small individual actions, happening at any time of the day, in different locations, and in various contexts, gave form to Coincidence.

For 14 days, behaviours in the area were transformed to suggest new ways to interact and communicate with each other, to perceive and experience a place and to shape a collective identity. The daily actions were suggested by local groups and residents during discussions with Laurence Payot previous to the performance, reflecting on people's perception of the are and desire to challenge assumptions and daily routines.

For each day of the performance, video-smith Sam Meech followed 2 participants to reveal how they interpreted the daily action.
