-Build a suspension setup for an E1 class 2014 Lexus IS250 that has to compete in the 2014 NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race. Do this in under two weeks with no prior testing before arriving at Willows, CA for the main event.
-Deliver maximum grip and neutral balance allowing early power application on this AWD (all wheel drive) configuration.
-Make sure it lasts the entire race.

This was the situation that Fat Cat Motorsports, Shaikh Ahmad and team faced working on the Lexus / N1 Racing 2014 IS250 AWD build. Fortunately, everyone involved stepped up so we delivered an FCM Elite suspension that worked out of the box to the delight of all 5 professional drivers. In this video you hear comments from Kai Goddard, professional / racing driver / coach and Alan McCallum, decorated SCCA / NASA Nationals winner.
In fact, our IS250 was GAINING in the terms on every other team including the Honda Research West (factory supported) cars! Being down on power and fighting other challenges, our goal was to finish the entire 25 hours.
Given the short time frame, we didn't have time to add our new KBO (Kerb Blow-Off) option that's currently being tested on Senna, our Mazda Miata race car, but you can read about it on our FCM Suspension Truth forum (link below).
Result: 527 laps completed, finished 7th in E1. 3 sets of tires used for the whole race with excellent wear. Success!
Special thanks to Norman @ N1 Racing / N1 Concepts for selecting us to deliver a top-quality suspension for his new build; NikRomanoRacing and Gordon P for their measurements and diligence in fitment, chassis fabrication, modification, final setup; and Masa for the huge contribution of modifying brake pads all through the night to keep the car moving. Here's to a great 2014 race season!
We've happily transcribed some of the driver's comments and kind words below:
"From my perspective I don't think there's a better suspension tuner than Fat Cat Motorsports. You guys just killed it. That race car has a ton of mechanical grip. That's the first thing I thought coming over 5 was that thing bit like a tiger." - Kai Goddard
"I was highly impressed. You guys nailed it on suspension setup - the alignment, everything was just perfect. That's the one thing we haven't really played with is any suspension settings, honestly. The tire wear, mechanical grip, the way it turns. It has a really friendly understeer is what I call it. It turned in with just a little bit of understeer that allowed me to get on the gas real really early for mid-corner exit. So I can't thank you guys enough - 110% in my opinion, for sure." - Kai Goddard
"I 100% agree. I've never driven a car on a race track where we didn't spend all this time messing with rebound and compression and spring rates - all this stuff. We haven't done any of that." - Alan McCallum
"We were so confident with the tuning of the shocks they're not adjustable. We could have made them adjustable but we knew we wouldn't need to." - Nik Romano
"You know there's 5 of us and you've heard from two. The other three guys will say the exact same thing. We've got people with a lot of sports car experience, 4,000 pound stock car experience, open wheel experience." - Kai Goddard
"So everyone is essentially of the same opinion - that this car right out of the gate just handled absolutely phenomenally. It was a breath of fresh air, to be honest with you. So we ran the car yesterday for a few laps. I drove it for three laps in practice and the handling was just - perfect. I mean no complaints, it was awesome." - Kai Goddard
