Lt. Dan Choi put himself at the forefront of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal after coming out on national television, receiving a discharge letter, and chaining himself to the White House fence.
The West Point graduate also went on a seven-day hunger strike and chained himself a second time which led to an arrest. Choi was recognized at this year's Equality Forum with the International Role Model Award.
GayRVA.com interviewed Choi at the event. Activism in the spotlight aside, Choi told GayRVA he is still working to find acceptance from his parents -- his father is a Southern Baptist minister. He says he's put dating on hold for the moment and doesn't want to drag a partner into the public eye of his work.
