While walking around the National Rifle Association Annual Meeting and Convention, these cool gun safes caught my eye, so I had to talk with the owner, David Bartel, so I could learn more about them. While they're new to me, he has been making this style of safes since 1999. The safe is completely round (cylindrical) and the door sits flush along the wall when closed, but to open, it moves into the safe and rotates within the wall, exposing 360° access to the firearms within. The steel is 3/8" thick plate steel, and treated to different fire ratings. The locking mechanism can be set up with a variety of combinations, from keypads to dual combo locks. The handle is made to resist forced entry by snapping off after 200lbs of pressure, and is made of two plates of spring steel to resist drilling. Another feature about the 360° safe is that the safe itself can be rotated and then locked into place, hiding the door. This safe featured in the video was made for a Harley Davidson dealer (as you can likely tell by the internal and external paint job), but as each safe is custom made, it can be painted inside and out in any manner, and can be set up to accommodate a number of pistol/rifle/valuables combinations. Inside, the vault can include velvet inserts, rubberized coating, or completely upholstered per customer request. If the round safe isn't what you're looking for, they also make a corner vault with a round face that has the same rotating internals. Pretty cool, no?
