International Organization for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (EAFORD)
On 23rd September 2016, the International Organization for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (EAFORD), in cooperation with the Geneva International Centre for Justice and “Women Journalists without Chains” Organization, held a side event during the thirty-third regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, titled “Nothing is Safe”.
This side event aimed at analyzing the deteriorating human rights situation in Yemen following the Al-Houthi coup d’état and how this is affecting the whole population, including women and children.
At the beginning, the Moderator, Mr. Paulo Casaca, a former member of the EU parliament, welcomed the audience and made a brief introduction to the topic in question and then presented the speakers of the side event who were:
Ms. Tawakkol Karman: Nobel Peace Prize Laureate in 2011. Ms. Karman is a human rights activist, journalist, politician, and the president of Women Journalists without Chains Organization.
Mr. Ibrahim Qatabi: He serves as a UN/U.S. advisor to the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Ms. Tawakkol Karman, in Yemen.
Ms. Bushra Hassan Al-Surabi: An activist and the executive director of the Women Journalists without Chains Organization (WJWC) from 2012.
Ms. Aswan Shaher Sa´ad Mohammed: A member of the Board of Trustees of WJWC, and a member of the Syndicate of the Yemeni Journalists. She is also a TV presenter of a weekly political program titled “Al-Fada´a Al-Hor”.
Ms. Hooria Mashhour: A former Minister of Human Rights in Yemen and a human rights activist.
