This may appeal more to the guy (or gal) with a "technical mind"; Bob Bennett, RCA honcho for day to day technical operations, takes us through how RCA's satellites are monitored for performance on a day to day basis; actually, minute to minute setting aside the 24 x 7 monitoring maintained by the "flight engineer" (parts one and two here). This is all about spectrum analyzers and transponder by transponder performance evaluation. At the other end of "the line" there were millions of cable TV system subscribers who depended, even if unknown to the cable subscribers, on Bob Bennett to "keep their pictures pristine". All of what you witness here is essentially unchanged in 2013; only the technology development and the huge increase in satellites (and transponders) has grown. Happy learning! (Bob Cooper; June 2013)
