EMV chip provides an additional level of authentication at the point of sale that helps reduce card present fraud. But even if you have EMV chip you still need PCI to protect payment card data all the way through the transaction process, including when payments are made online or via telephone, where the card is not present. Because it focuses on overall data security, the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is especially important in the gradual global adoption of EMV chip cards.
