UNDP helped bring together the international community and local stakeholders in Bosnia and Herzegovina to focus development support to Srebrenica, the site of Europes worst massacre since the Second World War.
The UNDP, longstanding partner of Srebrenica Municipality, started its Regional Recovery Programme for Srebrenica in 2002. In period of five years of its efforts to recover this region it provided support on many levels such as provision of assistance in agriculture, training and loan funding to more than 6,500 citizens, creation of preconditions for improved local governance, reconstruction of 145 kilometres of roads, connection of 8 villages to a water supply system and the provision of water treatment for 2,222 households, clearance of mines from 800 hectares of land and restoration of electricity to 1,500 families.
