To improve the communication skills of students with profound special needs, including those with autism, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy, Dr. David Lazerson and his co-applicant, Cindy Frost, implemented a music program in special education classes. The team used software to assist students in understanding the nuances of simple instruments, and eventually, learning and playing songs. Students interacted with members of their community through song and dance performances at senior centers, other schools, and a local children's hospital
