Christmas in July and KawFest was to be Saturday, July 10th but has been moved to Saturday, July 31st to allow the lake level to get down closer to it's normal level. Water is being released through Kaw Dam at a rate in excess of 15,000 cubic feet per second. That's a hell of a lot of water each and every second.
Campsites at both Coon Creek and Washunga Bay have some campsites closed due to high water and a couple boat ramps remain closed at Coon Creek & Osage Cove.
The fishermen I spoke with said they were told by lake rangers that water entering Kaw Lake was twice the rate as what was being released so it would be a while until the rate being released is more than the rate entering the lake.
