During a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Teacher Program last October, I was able to spend time in the rural areas outside of Tokyo and also on the island of Kyushu near Arao City. The pictures are of rice fields, a Taiko Drum club on their way to a Shinto shrine festival, a cemetery bell rung with a log on chains, the castle at Kumamoto, a pottery factory in the foothills of Mt. Shodai, a Nashi pear farm, et. al. The soundscape is a collage of field recordings and a live concert at Kumamoto University of koto and violin.
