make sure to water as soon as you plant your plant.

if you have gnats in your room or around the dirt when you buy it stick some sand on the top of your soil and always make sure your plant is large enuff to stick its leaves out of the dirt so it has the best chance.

if you leave your leaves under the dirt and you have gnats the gnat larvae seem to hinder your plants ability to pop the leaves out of the soil

topsoil works fine but add some sand to the dirt like a cup per large pot and start fertilizing as soon as you plant. read directions on the fertilizer you use

if you make your own soil 5 gallons of compost, 5 gallons of peat, 2 ½ gallons of sand, a gallon of perlite, and a cup each of greensand, bone meal and lime.is the best mix ive found and you dont have to fertilize for 6 or so months
