On Saturday 28th April 2012 five of us decided to ride from Crystal Palace Park to Park
Lane. On the way we picked up another forty or so at Catford. A few more joined us between there and Hyde Park.

Then about ten thousand more joined in...

Having already encountered the Traffic Droid (no idea how I picked him out from the crowd...) I stopped along Picadilly to film him back, but he was taking his time and meeting people, friendly chap.

Loads of helmet cameras around - a smattering of Vehos, some Contours, and so many GoPros, but my own Veho Muvi has such a short battery life now that I didn't bother taking it along.

A fantastic day had by all, I think. As I was filming this I was asked what it was all about, and had the pleasure of hearing my own explanation being passed on to someone else later, chinese whispers style.

Why was I there?
Because I want to be able to cycle to work without my wife wondering if she'll see me again.
Because I want to feel I'm not putting myself in danger by leaving the car at home (whether I go by bike or public transport).
Because I want London roads to be about people, not about cars, and I want bicycles recognised as a valid mode of transport with a safe space on the road.

And because if the roads were safer I'd cycle more, and perhaps the 26-ish mile round trip wouldn't have left me so achy the day after.
