OKTOBERFEST 2016 just started in Munich and will be rocking until Monday, October 3. This video is the first in a nine-part series of amazing videos shot by Paul Hodge at the 2014 Munich Oktoberfest. These videos are intended to give viewers an in-depth idea of what Munich's Oktoberfest celebration is all about. Please enjoy!
Chapter 79 is one of 128 Chapters of Paul Hodge's incredible "ground breaking" November, 2014 High Definition (HD) Video Book, "2014 SOLO AROUND WORLD IN 25 DAYS, SEPT 5 - SEPT 30, 2014”. Paul’s HD video chronicles the prelude to Oktoberfest’s opening day morning “Parade of Landlords & Breweries” on Saturday, September 20, 2014. This HD video chapter is the first of a very special five-part HD video chapter series (See Chapters 79-83 herein) highlighting the parade and the 1,000+ participants, including the brewers landlords' families in decorated carriages, the magnificent horse-drawn drays of the Munich breweries, waitresses on decorated floats and all the Octoberfest beer tent bands. Paul filmed the parade while it marched on Munich’s Schwanthaler Strasse and turned on a street leading to the Octoberfest Theresienwiese fairgrounds. At the fairgrounds right after the parade ended, by tradition, Munich’s Mayor tapped the first beer keg which officially started the Oktoberfest 2014 celebration.
Oktoberfest is the world’s biggest beer party. Every year, more than 7 million visitors come to the festival where more than 6 million liters of beer are served and around 500,000 chickens are eaten. Oktoberfest 2014 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany commenced Saturday, September 20 and ended Sunday, October 5th. The first Oktoberfest was held in 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese of Saxony. In the following years, the Oktoberfest celebration was repeated and moved to start in late September and end in early October because of better weather conditions. For 200+ years, Oktoberfest has been celebrated in Munich’s centrally located 105+ acre park area called Theresienwiese, which was named after Ludwig’s bride, meaning “grassland of Therese”. Locals call Oktoberfest "die Wiesn” because of its location.
