Even though Pycelle was talking shit just before (he sucks up, that's what he does), I do appreciate how shocked he looks that Joffrey was actually stupid enough to go through with this. Pycelle and Varys are literally like "what the fuck are you doing, this is fucking stupid."

I just notice that Cersei and Varys were both shocked about Joffrey's sentence on Ned Stark. Cersei was trying to persuade Joffrey because she KNEW that all hell would break loose if he was executed, and there'll be an all out war between the Lannisters, the capital, and the Northerners cuz they didn't keep their word. Lord Varys ran towards Joffrey because he truly wanted Ned Stark to serve the realm, and tried desperately for Joffrey to spare him, but they both failed. And when Ice was unsheathed, you see Varys and Cersei looking away.
