Yair's family and friends learned and completed the entire Shas (6 Books of Mishna) within 30 days of his tragic death in a hike in Nachal Og in the Judean Desert. This was the special evening and conclusion in Yair's honor and memory.
In memory of Yair Shapiro z"l, we are working on various commemoration projects, and call upon his friends and those whose lives were touched by his to contribute where they can.
Yair was known to his family and friends as a sweet, kind, and genuine person, always with a huge smile on his face. Raised in Livingston, NJ until the age of 9 1/2, Yair moved to Israel and lived in Ra’anana with his family. In the past few years, Yair had settled in Jerusalem and lived in the Katamon area. While Yair studied and earned his degrees at Hebrew and Bar Ilan Universities, he worked and conducted research at various institutions, namely Hebrew University, Yad Vashem, and the Begin Center. Yair was also involved in his own Jerusalem neighborhood, contributing to Shabbat meals, volunteering at a local nursing home, and serving on a local committee (Pinui Binui), among various other initiatives. Most importantly, Yair was generous, giving, and loving towards his family and friends, and all those who crossed paths with him.
