The Free Trieste Movement recorded this video on the Karst Plateau, in Trieste, to denounce the contamination of the Well of Pigeons, a cave polluted by a lake of hydrocarbons and naphtha.

Roberto Giurastante, President of the Movement, explains that one of the reasons why Trieste is seriously polluted is the city's own special status: the Free Territory of Trieste became an independent State in 1947, however, since 1954, its temporary civil administration is sub-entrusted to the Italian Government.

Taking advantage of the tensions of the Cold War this administration downgraded into an illegal simulation of Italian sovereignty which, hiding behind blind and anachronistic nationalism, received abnormal immunities that allowed it to commit crimes that would not even be tolerated in the Italian lands ruled by the Mafias.
