Braided updos are a really versatile look. They work for casual events as well as the more elegant ones, such as weddings or proms. Many celebrities like Nicole Richie, Jessica Alba, and Lauren Conrad, to list a few, have sported braided updos, making the hairstyle immensely popular.

Braid updos may seem too tricky to attempt on your own, but if you want to learn how to do a braided updo, here are some simple directions which you can do yourself..

French braided updos are quite a trendy style. To achieve curvy braided chignon, first apply some volumizing product to your hair, then blow dry upside down. Start French braiding from the crown toward the hairline behind your ear then back to the other side, and finally, near the neckline. Tuck in the ends underneath the part of the braid coming from the last ear, and secure with hair pins. Make it really secure by crossing two hairpins in one place.

Another fun braided updo is achieved by dividing your hair down the middle, and gathering it into two sections. Braid one section at a time and keep from unraveling with a rubber band. Get hold of one braid and pull it firmly across the top of your head. Fasten with hair pins. Pick hairpins that are similar to your hair color. Repeat with the other braid. Smooth down any fly-away hairs or lumps. Spritz with hairspray to make it last longer.
